How to Get Sales

"Readership Leads to Sales"
Renda  Dodge

What can you do to find readers for your book? Price it right. Share a chapter. Gift ebooks.

Make sure that there are zero errors, and your plot and characters are compelling, and the structure is sound. The best way to achieve readers is to make it the best it can be, and everyone will want to share it.

Enjoy the Journey!

  1. How true. A compelling, mezmerizing plot is also a plus. (^;

    And I am ... enjoying the journey. You never know where you wind up.

  2. If you do all those, people will start talking about your book, and that will help sales.

    But you also have to be realistic. With so many traditional books, ebooks, and self published books available, it will get harder and harder to sell your book. I'm getting extremely picky now. Books I once might have read no longer stand a chance. The concept really has to grab me. I've got to want to read the book NOW for me to consider it for my TBR pile.

  3. It's always been word-of-mouth that creates sales and longevity. Excellent advice, but I agree with Lorelei and Stina about needing a truly compelling concept or characterization or plot that stands out, too if you don't already have major readership. Something I've been paying attention to is indie ebook pricing--I think debut books need to be priced WAY low, like $1.99 or $2.99, and that needs to be combined with Renda's other suggestion of sharing a chapter to get sales. Forget making $ on your first book--go for building readership.

  6. Stina, Excellent point! And now "you" understand what the agents must be feeling too. The point is, you need to market your book to those who will be interested. If you're a reader that's picky and won't like mine...then I'd be silly to waste time, energy and money marketing to you. But then... it still has to be great!

  7. So True Linda! I'm with you on the pricing. Do something to get the readers to read it. Any part of it. I like giving away chapters. Once they do... they're hooked. Then they'll want more and pass it on. "If it's good." Thanks for the comment!
