How To Maximize Sales of Your Book on Amazon

In September Digital Book World held a conference in New York where one of the speakers was Jon       Fine, director of author and publisher relations for Amazon. According to Fine, there are three things you can do to make sure you are getting the best sales numbers possible from your listing on Amazon:
  1. Make sure your book is available in all appropriate formats all the time.
  2. Make sure your metadata is specific and good: book cover, synopsis, author information, book jacket blurb, etc. This, according to Fine, is probably the most important piece of maximizing Amazon sales.
  3. Focus on creating a great Author Page to make it easier for readers to discover you through Amazon.
These suggestions sound excellent for all book sales, to me. For more detail on Amazon's suggestions, check out the DBW report on Fine's presentation here.

    2. oops, can't spell . . . anyway, thanks for that comment, CZ. As a writer, I'm mostly interested in the content of the metadata topics, but much of its importance in the e-book world is its usefulness as a classification system, sort of like knowing what shelf to put a book on in a physical bookstore. I'll post on metadata in the digital world on Monday.

  3. They are great suggestions but even diligence to each of them won't always guarantee sales. A great book must be at the core of course, and then there is luck. :)

    1. Great points, Heather. I know you know what you're talkin' about! No matter how much attention we pay to all these important factors to give us an edge, nothing works without the basics (including luck :)!)

    1. So much to remember all the time, but at least you have the option of updating your info when you want to.
